{Inspiration Workshop: Vintage}

I've been thinking about setting some goals, a bucket-list if you will, for the year. Ohsweetie used to (still does?) do a yearly list on her blog: 25 (goals) before (you turn) 26, 28 before 29, etc. This year it would be 29 before 30 for me! My birthday was in April, so I've kind of kind of given 30 a head-start now. But I'd still like to create a challenging (yet reasonable) set of goals for the year. Now that I've said all of that, I'm not actually going to create the list today. Ha!

One thing that will definitely be on the list is "sew a dress" or maybe "sew two dresses." I spend a lot of time sewing for my shop, but I'd like to take on a bigger project that I can keep! This week's prompt for the Gussy Sews Inspirational Workshop is "Vintage." I love vintage inspired dresses, so I'm taking this opportunity to find an inspirational vintage pattern!

Wait, that's not a dress! No, it is not, but is it ever fantastic!

I love mod dresses because you can make them really wearable. To the post-office, to the fabric store, to the grocery store . . . all the places I go in an average day. The asymetrical button in the top one is super, and the collar on the black and white striped is pretty divine.

Maybe a little less wearable, but I'm a sucker for a big 50s skirt. I love love love the sleeves on this one too, and of course it doesn't hurt that it's red!

  1. LOVE the mod dresses! In fact, I'm even attempting to sew a little mod dress for my seven-month-old.

  2. You should definitely try it!! Sewing a dress isn't that hard with a pattern and I bet you could even find an old vintage dress pattern for free!!! Good luck!

  4. I used to have old 1930s ads and catalog pages framed in my bathroom. These remind me of those! Happy sewing!
