Do It (for) Yourself!

A couple weeks ago the Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop prompt was 'favourite shop,' and I found all sorts of market display ideas that inspired me to dress up my own display! This week's prompt is 'D.I.Y.', so it' a perfect time to share some photos of what I actually did with all that inspiration!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again--I'm in love with flag bunting. So I made up some of my own with scrap cotton, fusible interfacing, and some white bias tape. I just ironed the interfacing onto the scraps and then cut them into similar (but not same) sized triangles and then sewed them into the bias tape at evenly spaced intervals.

I was also super-stoked about some of the confectionary/bakery type stuff that I saw online, and so I kept my eyes peeled at my local thrift store for anything that I might be able to fashion a tiered plate thingy out of.

And what luck, I found some really sweet vintage saucers and a spiral candle holder thingy that just happens to hold the aforementioned saucers perfectly! The candle holder was metallic, so I sprayed it with a low-gloss ivory paint. I should have buffed it a bit first though, because the paint is not going to hold on for dear life as it is.

There are so many more d.i.y. things I want to try! Good ol' Martha Stewart's website is a veritable goldmine, and I'm starting to accumulate links to her site on my "Now, There's an Idea" board on Pinterest. I've already tried Martha's Tomato Pincushions and her Felted Knitting Basket, and I'm really happy with the way they turned out (photos to come . . . someday). I would also really like to give the soy wax candle tutorial a go . . . and put them in teacups, like these:

How about you? Any projects on the go? On the back burner, just waiting for supplies and time?

Thanks for checking in!

  3. I'm going to have to check out your pinterest, as it sounds like we may have much in common! I have wanted to make tea cup candles for many years. One day I will. I recently made some bunting, also! (http://anikalacerte.com/2011/08/how-to-make-a-pennantbunting/)
